Parents want to know how they can improve their relationships and promote healthy communication and trust, which is why we have put together 11 ways to encourage, promote and sustain a healthy connection for all the family to enjoy.

Some family lives have never been so busy, which disturbs family dynamics and with all the activities, after school sports, events, kid’s birthday parties and not to mention the internet, which seems to grab all our attention and leaves very little for the family to communicate.

This might seem all a bit overwhelming, especially for some single parents and for some who are feeling more and more disconnected to their children this can be worrying. The main form of interaction between parent and child, for some, is giving them orders, telling them off or even dropping them off to their next activity, which seems sad and leaves an emptiness no parent wants either in themselves or for their kids.

There are some great ways to encourage a connection with your children and with a little willingness you’ll all be best of friends in no-time. Have a little faith and with these 11 steps, that can be used throughout your week, try and notice if any positive changes take place.

 

Step 1. Try and eat round the dinner table this is often undervalued and overlooked, especially when everyone wants to do their own thing, usually watching the latest YouTube video that’s currently trending or their favorite cartoon on TV.  Once you have them at the table ask each one to comment on something positive about their day and retell to the rest of the family, which can cause laughs all-round and appreciation for the small things.

Step 2.  Get the children to cook for one night of the week and encourage them to think of something new from time to time. This develops their culinary skills and gets them to interact with their siblings, which is fundamental for healthy family dynamics and relationships.

Step 3. For families with more than one child, it is a good idea to encourage each other with appreciating the other’s preferences of after school activities. Some might be sporty and others prefer reading, so whatever each prefers to make sure you allow time for them to spend time doing what the other likes. One day the library and the other riding bikes for example.

Step 4. Try and encourage each day with inspiring quotes and by allowing positive words they will begin to become more appreciative of each other and the language they use to express their daily activities. Words are what frame our experience and the more we use the right kind of words the better our experience of the world becomes.

Step 5.  Have a regular fun-night, which is something that everyone enjoys and always brings everyone together without such a big battle that some families face. Maybe a movie night, make a cake, storytelling, board games and whatever works for you and your family.
